Opinions on les paul copies...?
Hey.. I've been trying to get an epiphone les paul for quite a while now, and am now sure that there is absolutely no way I can get one shipped to India for a reasonable rate. Also, shops in India dont stock them. So I would like your opinions on a few copies.. The samick greg bennett av3 seems to be pretty good, but i'm not that into its looks.. The pick guard is kinda weird.. how about the harmony les paul copy.. or any other one that you think is close enough to an epiphone..
I have owned a Samick AV3 for about 7 years. I absolutely love it. It's a solidly built guitar and has great action. I have never had a problem with it other than the pickup toggle switch coming loose and the threads on the nut being stripped so I couldn't tighten it back up. I just got a new toggle switch and replaced it. The stock Duncan Designed pickups are actually not too bad, but if you become a serious player I'd replace them eventually. I actually like the looks of mine, but I have the cinnamon red one and the cream pickguard looks pretty decent with it. You can always remove it if you want. There's just a couple tiny screws holding it on.
I actually bought the AV3 because a friend at work who builds guitars told me they were a great guitar for the money. I almost got the RL5, which is more of a hollow body jazz guitar after reading it got a Player's Choice award in Guitar Player Magazine, but I didn't want to shell out the $500 for that one, so I played the AV3, loved it, and got it for around $300 instead. No regrets.
