Hot cylinders on vintage motorcycle?
I have purchased a mint condition 1983 Honda Nighthawk 750. She looks and runs beautifully. My only issue is that following a day of riding this past Sunday, I have noticed that two of the 4 exhaust pipes are getting discolored. Could this be a carb fuel/oil mixture issue causing the two cylinders to run hot? Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!
I'm guessing the middle two pipes are where the problem is. This is because they don't have as much air passing around them to cool them. You should have someone check the balance of the carburetors. This may also be a normal condition, chrome headers will discolor from heat associated with exhaust gasses. The wrong paint will burn off for the same reason.
Good luck.
